A Watoto Village
The children who live in the Watoto villages feel comfortable and at-home. The setting, 9 houses positioned in clusters, reflects a familiar traditional dwelling for people in Uganda. Each house provides all the essentials of a basic home. The outdoor spaces have sports fields and landscaped areas that give the children plenty of space to play and develop their social skills.
When the orphaned and vulnerable children are placed in this type of loving, family environment, with a mother and siblings who love them, they find a place that they can call home. At the heart of every Watoto village is this welcoming family structure.
The villages present an eco-friendly environment as Watoto implements better ways of building sustainable and cost-effective homes and villages by harvesting rainwater and using solar energy. As they children witness this progress, they learn, too, to become leaders who will bring sustainable change to their nation and beyond.
Mum with Watoto Family
Through a program called Father's Heart, men from Watoto Church commit themselves to becoming father figures and positive male role models to a specific Watoto home. They visit whenever they can to help the children with their homework, to play with younger children and to disciple the older boys.
Sunday Line sponsors 1 mother and 6 children who are thankful for the opportunity to grow and develop in the Watoto setting. Their regular letters greet us in the name of Jesus Christ and express thanks for showing our love through sponsorship.
Mother Eunice writes: I always give glory to God Almighty for the gift of life. I am serving with Watoto for the 5th year. My children have grown and become more responsible. The oldest will be joining university next year. The youngest will be graduating to primary one. The oldest is a guitar player and all my children love singing and serving God.
7 year old Zara writes: I am very fine and enjoying school because I am in a new class. My teachers are lovely. My Christmas was fun. I ate cake and I got a gift. I promise to work hard and excel.
12 year old Sadat writes: My best hobby is basketball. I was playing it with my best friends and it was so cool and interesting.
